Description
Motor starter relay module, 6 terminal, marked QZ2-80H. This is a universal PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) compressor start relay and overload protector used in mini-fridges, wine coolers, and chest freezers from brands like Haier, Midea, Danby, LG, Whirlpool, and Kenmore. Listed for EUROTECH: ED-BF42
Symptoms of a Bad QZ2-80H Relay
- Click-Clack Sound: The compressor tries to start, fails, and clicks every 3 to 5 minutes as the overload protector trips.
- Hot Compressor: The compressor body feels burning hot to the touch because power repeatedly cycles to the start winding.
- No Cooling: The refrigerator or freezer motor fails to run.
Specifications & Testing
- Normal Resistance: A working QZ2-80H PTC starter typically measures between 4 to 50 ohms (or 3 to 12 ohms depending on the specific terminal measurement) at room temperature.
- Failure Resistance: If your multimeter reads over 50 ohms (or shows open/infinite resistance / OL), the PTC chip is burned out and needs replacement.
- Dimensions: Roughly 32 x 25.5 x 28.5 mm (weighing around 20g)
Replacement Steps
- Unplug the refrigerator from the electrical outlet.
- Access the compressor by removing the lower back service panel and the plastic cover attached to the compressor side.
- Pull off the old QZ2-80H relay and overload protector unit directly from the metal pins on the side of the compressor.
- Disconnect the wiring harness and inspect the pins or internal ceramic PTC disc for charring.
